Tis the Day
after Christmas and the start of the "Feast of Left-Overs" and
"Return Day" (for all those things you received that don't fit, or
have duplicates of.) If you are like me this morning, you've sworn
off food for the rest of your life. But wasn't it so wonderful?
I hope you all
had a merry Christmas like I and my wife, Chris, had.
We had the
privilege of participating in the mayhem of our "adopted family's"
(Tom and Caryl's,) Christmas along with their two grown children,
their two beautifully different girls, (grandchildren) ages 10 and
14, and two dogs who in human years would be 70 and 98. Two
"senior citizens" of the dog's world to keep three senior citizens
of the human world company. And you know the most beautiful thing
about it all?
We were made to
feel welcomed and loved by everyone.
All the
presents are put away (almost) and I am wearing my new robe. I
just finished adorning the Chia Pet head of Shrek with a fresh
coat of seeds. Right now he looks like a sweaty-faced,
bald-headed, funny-eared guy I used to know. Life doesn't get any
better than this.
I guess what
makes it so good is that their Power of Love enveloped me and drew
me into this circle as one of their own. Why not make others feel
loved that way in our worldwide "Spiritual Family?" Oh! That's
what we are already doing, right? I just wanted you to know that
that Power of Love includes me too...right down to the home and
family level where it counts.
So, while the
Christmas tree still stands in mute testimony to the occasion that
was, let's not forget the real "Reason for the Season." No, it
wasn't for the one whose followers named it in his
honor..."Christ's mass." It is much older than Christianity
itself. Like Love, it includes so many that don't seem to belong
there. Christmas includes such "pagan" ceremonies as the giving of
gifts, the decorating of a Christmas tree, even the "babe in the
manger." All of these have been included from what were considered
“pagan” rites and peoples.
Christmas is
not about the mistletoe hung over the door frame, nor the "stolen"
kisses (that are really not stolen, but given freely with glee...)
It is about us, you and me and all the children both young and
old. It is to honor Love, and demonstrate it. I am one of those
who feels honored to have been included by others and to include
others.
You are all my
family, and I love you. Let's look forward to a New Year and
create the realities within it we wish. It is within our power,
you know? Be Blessed by All That Is.
Love, Mel
